Rugby is typically played most of the year. The Fall Season starts in August and runs through November. Once the fields thaw out, the Spring Season starts up again in March and ends in May. There is also Rugby 7's (which is played with half the amount of people on the field) that is played throughout the summer. Where does the team play? The PAC home games are played at the Crossroads Middle School at 635 Georges Road, South Brunswick, New Jersey. Away games are played throughout New Jersey, New York, the Philadelphia region & lower Connecticut. What equipment do I need? Rugby requires very minimal equipment. Typically, you'll need a mouth guard, soccer socks and rugby/soccer boots (cleats). These can all be purchased online or at a sporting goods stores such as Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods. Players normally wear rugby jerseys to practice. T-shirts are also ok, but they tend to rip very easily in a tackle. We highly recommend that you also purchase rugby specific shorts as they are made to endure the game. You can purchase them (and rugby jerseys) online through the Store section of our website. Please click on the Ruggers.com logo and follow the instructions on the right of the banner. The club will supply jerseys for the matches. When is the practice? During the season, training sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at our home field, Crossroads Middle School at 635 Georges Road, South Brunswick, New Jersey. How much experience do I need? No experience necessary. Your coaches and teammates will go out of their way to teach you the skills you need to play the game. After participating in controlled practices, you will be eased into action at a pace you are comfortable with. Learning the game is also a great opportunity to connect with your teammates off the pitch. Don't be afraid to ask an existing member for help practicing ball skills in your free time, or reviewing rugby matches to boost your knowledge. It will only help them become better rugby players in the long run as well, and it will help forge the close bonds that are essential in a rugby club. Are there coaches? Yes, the PAC Rugby team has USA Rugby Certified Coaches who closely monitor your progress and provide supportive practice sessions as well as personal support to help you reach your goal. Does the team have other social events? As a full member of the Princeton Athletic Club, you are welcomed at all post-match parties as well as the annual Awards Banquet, Hall of Fame Induction, and PAC Barbecue. These social events are an integral part of rugby culture, which extends far off the pitch. As a rugby club, you will be part of a community of athletes, professionals, and friends. Rugby offers a rich culture of history, song, and competition; there's more to rugby than the game itself. Does PAC ever go on the road? In recent years, the club has traveled to various countries as well as state side events including Texas, Georgia, California, Montana, Nevada, Louisiana, Argentina, Ireland and Scotland. Opportunities to travel, see new places, make new friends, and hit them on the pitch are part of what makes rugby a great sport worldwide. Will I make any friends with PAC? Rugby is truly a fraternity. You will make friends who you will cherish for the rest of your life. It is a proven fact that when you need a helping hand, you can count on your mates!
